About Me
A natural connection
‘There is a pleasure in the pathless woods,
There is a rapture in the lonely shore,
There is society where none intrudes,
By the deep sea, and music in its roar;
I love not Man the less, but Nature more.’
Lord Byron
Childe Harold’s Pilgrimage
Hi, I’m Dave. Ever since I was a child I have been in love with the natural world. Nature is by far the best teacher, and I was an eager learner. I was fortunate enough to spend nearly all of my educational life in hilly, forested country. I am ever grateful for the lessons learned, the time spent, and the company I had through all those times.
Long walks into the wild, scrambling up rocky hillsides, and going down into hidden valleys with gentle, babbling brooks, were all moments of deep joy for me. I felt a connection with the earth – a sense of belonging, of oneness.
For many years I traveled to different parts of the earth, living and working on different continents, in various countries. I had the privilege of being in the company of many, wonderful people. As an educator, I taught many students of all ages, but it was a mutual experience for me, as I gained considerable knowledge from them as well. I am grateful that over the years I gathered a lot from all my experiences and encounters, the support of family and friends, courses studied, brilliant minds that taught me lessons I would never have learned anywhere else, outstanding personalities that showed by their very example, what true living is meant to be! In one way or another I saw well grounded lives. People in tune with the world around them and letting the flow of life pass through them uninhibited.
This planet has been a gift to us, but I feel we have done a great injustice to it. We have used and abused it to the point where things are changing drastically. The wax is melting down, the flame flickers. It begs us to rekindle this relationship that we have with our planet before it is too late. To get it all back on track.
It starts with simple visits into the natural world. Spending time out there and basking in the glow of its healing grace will re-energize us.
Through this blog I hope to share this wonder that I feel when out in the natural world. Most of it is through pictures or videos I have taken of places and sights that appeal or spoke to me. In some places I include travel tips and advice, or travel related items that I have found useful, or which I have been asked about. I also hope that I can convince you to journey out there once in a while and spend some time connecting with, and appreciating our lovely Earth!
Feel free to comment or ask me about anything you would like to know concerning the information on this site. I hope to connect with other nature lovers out there and would love to hear from you and share your experiences as well! Till then, keep travelling, get outdoors, connect with our wonderful world and find your message!
Peace and Bon Voyage!
